About Cambridge Projections & Life Around Us

The City of Cambridge and the Digital Lights group host various live shows on the historic post office building throughout the year. These shows feature projected animations synchronized with music for the public to enjoy. The themes change seasonally, offering engaging experiences for all audiences. By adding a vibrant, artistic atmosphere to the city, these projections encourage tourism and relocation, ultimately drawing more people to Cambridge. The theme for this particular show was "I Live Here."

"I Live Here" can carry many meanings; it can represent a place in one's mind or a tangible, existing environment. As cities develop, our homes are increasingly shared with local wildlife. These animals are continually adapting to our presence, interacting with us and the spaces we inhabit. Consequently, we must learn to coexist and share our environments with them. This concept inspired the overall design for Life Around Us, which features local Cambridge wildlife showcasing their interactions with our shared spaces. Because the animation is projected onto a dark brick building at night, the colours are vibrant and bold to ensure high-quality, impactful visuals. The animation is playful and executed in a captivating stained-glass style that is both striking and memorable.
